A lot of you may know that you want someone to do your makeup on your big day but some of you probably don’t know where to start looking for a makeup artist, or even what look you want to go for. I’m going to list my top five tips on how to go about finding a makeup artist and deciding on the perfect look.
There are plenty of makeup artists around, you will notice this as you start searching. Every artist will be very good at what they do. However, they will all have their own unique style and their individual techniques. So you’ll want to find someone whose work fits in with your own style. The best way to do this is searching on Facebook or even google makeup artists in your area then looking through their images and seeing what stands out to you. Asking around and getting recommendations is another great way of finding someone, if an artists name is coming up more than once then you know that they will be worth having a look at.
To get the best out of your chosen makeup artist it is a good idea to turn up to your trial with a good idea of the look you want to achieve. I love it when brides come at me with images of makeup they like, the more information and ideas you have the better as this will allow your artist to get a good idea of the look you want. Don’t worry if you have absolutely no idea though, as your artist will be more than happy to discuss a variety of looks with you.
If at your trial you are unhappy with the first results please please PLEASE be honest with your artist. At the end of the day this is your face, you know how you like to look and you are used to how you do your own makeup so for an artist to come and meet you for the first time and apply makeup on your face in their own style that you will absolutely love first time round can sometimes be unrealistic. This is not at all a representation of the artists abilities, it can just mean a misunderstanding of what it was you wanted. I would be absolutely mortified if a bride to be wasn’t happy with her trial makeup but told me that she was because of the fear of hurting my feelings. If you hate what your artist has done please be honest and tell them. We are perfectionists and we will do your face ten times over until we get it right for you!
Make sure you get the brand and name of colour or the lipstick and lip pencil your artist has used as you will want to purchase it for the day. You’re going to need to top up after that first kiss as a married couple!!
Recently I have had brides that have booked me for the morning before the ceremony and late afternoon before the evening as they have wanted something a bit more dramatic for the evening. This isn’t going to be ideal for every bride I do understand. I don’t think I would have been able to get my makeup done all over again in the evening after a bottle (or 4) of Prosecco. However you may want to change your lip colour to a deeper or more vibrant shade, you also may want to darken your eye shadow more or add a touch of glitter…Something to think about.
