Anything that comes in garland form is alright by me; bunting, ribbon, whatever! But these little felt creations have really changed the game of home and venue decor. From darling felt initials, which are perfect for baby showers and whimsical weddings; to cheerful garlands which can brighten up a summer garden party or outdoor event, a Little Joy can introduce something very fun and indeed joyous to your event!
Delighted and over-joyed to add maker, Lucy Dye, and her felt bundle of goodness to my recommended suppliers- please follow her creative journey in this featured post.
I run ‘A Little Joy’ from our South Norfolk home alongside working part time as a psychologist and running around after my 2 year old daughter. I’ve always had a creative side, making things for friends and family and getting involved in event planning, with our Art Deco themed wedding being very much a handmade affair.
About 6 months ago, I set up my small business making felt decor after finishing my post graduate studies. I started out making decorations for children’s’ rooms but I’ve since supplied garlands for all around the home as well as provided custom orders for events and celebrations such as baby showers, children’s’ parties, and weddings
I’m currently working on initials for a bride and groom to match their wedding decor. They want it to be a bright and colourful day so the colour palette is red, orange, green, turquoise, purple and yellow.
Its all about colour and texture for me. I just love rainbows and matching my pieces with seasonal colours. I’m often inspired by customer’s ideas of how to bring together different shades from the 60+ in my personal colour chart
Being a Mum and juggling two jobs means things can get pretty busy. I’m also squeezing in some training runs when I can as I will be running a 10K for charity in April. Whenever I get a spare minute I’m making up and packaging orders. I put just as much love and care into packaging as I do making them – there’s something really special and exciting about receiving a handmade gift with a personal touch in the post. I also really enjoy networking with other small businesses, particularly those that are local. One of the great things about running a small business is discovering lots of talented makers.
Not long before I started A Little Joy we went to an October wedding on the Shropshire-Wales border. It was all hay bales, crocheted pumpkins and autumn leaves, and the bride wore an amazing wheatsheaf headdress. It was stunning. I would love to be able to contribute to something similar with warm earthy colours.
Individual letters and garlands of two sizes are available in my Etsy shop, and typically suited for display in the home or for small celebrations. I can provide competitive quotes for events where several letters or a number of longer length garlands are required.
